Results for the 2025 show can be found just below this bunch of text.  An album of photos is coming shortly.  Thank you to everyone who made the show so much fun.

Models in the Mountains (MIM) 2025 is almost here!  We like to make a weekend out of it.  The show itself is on Saturday.  Friday is a pony people slumber party!  It's a time to do art, socialize, enjoy the forest, eat, unwind, meet people, reconnect with people, and if anyone wants to host a workshop, we're open to that too.  We have comfy couches and some other sleeping options; you can bring your own air mattress or tent or both;  you can car camp, and if you come in an RV we'll find somewhere close by to park you.   We have lots of blankets and pillows.  Saturday morning we'll transform the school from a slumber party to a show hall.  2025 will be the second year that we include performance.  Hopefully we will be able to get through performance as we are judging halter.  If not, it will spill over into Sunday.  When the show is over on Saturday, the couches come back inside and we have slumber party part two.

Chilao School is located in heart of the Angeles National Forest.  There are no gas stations, restaurants or convenience stores - or anything else - for about thirty miles in any direction.  So we provide food and beverages throughout the weekend, and encourage potluck contributions.  If you have special dietary needs you should bring that special food with you.  We are located at an altitude of 5,265 feet.  (That is not quite high enough for full-blown altitude sickness, but if you are sensitive to altitude changes we recommend you bring your headache medicine of choice and be sure to stay hydrated).  One thing we do have is a USFS fire station...right across the road.

We strive to create a relaxed and friendly atmosphere throughout the weekend.  Once the show starts at 10 AM on Saturday morning, the pace picks up.  We run four show rings under the same class list at the same time:  Original Finish Breyer and Other Plastic, Original Finish Peter Stone Plastic, Custom and Artist Resin.  This year, we are adding a full suite of performance classes which will be judged at the same time with the goal of completing the performance division on Saturday.  That's a lot.  We will limit the number of showers, because the school somehow shrinks once you put a couple thousand ponies inside of it.

We recommend dressing comfortably and wearing comfy shoes.  Mountain weather can be...whatever it wants to be.  May is typically gorgeous and mild.  Just in case, and especially if you are staying the weekend, bring a variety of  clothing.

The show fee will remain $50.00 and you can bring all the ponies you want.  This is a confirmed NAN qualifier show. We need judges and we need prize donations.  If you would like to judge (or already volunteered to judge, please reach out via Facebook to Corina Roberts (Redbird) or by email to [email protected]

For those of you who also photo show, bring your photographic devices.  We have an indoor model horse arena and potentially several outdoor arenas (weather and time of day sensitive locations).

On this page you will find older show information and posters.  When I try to archive or remove them the page freezes...so we'll just leave them right there.  You can also peruse the photo galleries from our past shows by clicking on the page links at the top of this page.  See the boxes below to find the registration page and the show packet for MIM 2025.

March 23, 2021 Update - we are having The Little MIM 2021...twelve showers, a  no-workshop open creative day on Friday and sleepover Friday night.  As of today there are no more available shower slots.  There will be a total of twelve showers, and we will not be a NAN qualifier this year, nor will we have a NaMoPaiMo division.  We will still have food, fun, and be able to get away from the madness that seems to be the theme of the last two years.  We're doing a flat fee of $50.00, and you can bring all the ponies you want.

A  little bit about Models in the Mountains 2021 (MIM 2021) The show is held at Chilao School, which is owned by the non profit foundation Redbird.  Arts, cultural and environmental programs here are free both to organizers and to the public.  Chilao School operates on donations.  The school is located in a campground.  But you don't have to rent a campsite if you plan on staying all or part of the weekend.  You can camp here if you like.  The configuration of the driveway favors smaller recreational vehicles, but we can usually find room for larger ones nearby.  We have a sleepover in the school on Friday night.

A note about our local climate.  It has absolutely changed over the past 100 years, 50 years, and 5 years.  100 years ago, at 5,265 feet, we had true alpine forest as evidenced by historic photos.  We now have a sub-alpine-desert transition environment (literally, it transitions on the property).   What will the weather be like for the show?  We have no idea.  But let's imagine it perfect...not too hot, not too cold, not windy.  Just in case it isn't quite perfect, we recommend you bring a variety of clothing items, from summer to winter wear.

There is both telephone service and internet access at the caretaker residence, about 300 feet from the school.  Cell phones do not work in the forest, so please let your loved ones know that you'll call or text them after you arrive.
